Project Action Plans for Community Garden and Gleaning

Name of Project: Community Gardens

Point Person:  Nadine

SMART objective:   To connect EAT to a larger and  more diverse community by coordinating with and supporting the Community Center

What are some action steps we can take in this objective THIS YEAR to move us towards this objective or outcome?

Who should take the lead on this idea? (individuals, committee or other group?)

When will this happen?

(season or month of the year)

Idea 1

Be resource “consultants” for the community garden project.

Compile a list of EAT members and their area of expertise to provide to the Community Center for use by community garden users.

Nadine, Sandi, Mike were in this group

Within the next few months so that the list is available to community garden members as they are planning and planting their plots.

Idea 2

Provide a presence at Community Garden meetings.

As soon as community garden meetings start happening as per community center timeline.

Idea 3

Have an EAT garden plot to provide an “example” for other community garden users as well as putting EAT members into the community as a resource and presence.

Next year when the plots start getting planted per community center timeline.

Name of Project: Gleaning

Point Person: Nadine

SMART objective:   To connect surplus food from the community to those who can use it/need it.

What are some action steps we can take in this objective THIS YEAR to move us towards this objective or outcome?

Who should take the lead on this idea? (individuals, committee or other group?)

When will this happen?

(season or month of the year)

Idea 1

Have a guide (similar to the Farm to Table guide) that lists farms/orchards that are willing to let us/people glean to give to places/organizations that could use it (soup kitchen, food bank, churches)

NEED A LEAD PERSON

WHEN?

Idea 2

Do the gleaning/processing ourselves and give to places and organizations that can use it.  (However….we realize this is a huge undertaking worthy of its own separate organization and so there would have to be  tremendous interest and energy around this project)

This may be a project worthy of its own organization so we would need a huge amount of interest and energy as well as some outside help.  Maybe partnering with Harvest Against Hunger or a similar organization.

We thought this needed to be something that we talked more about as a group in order to decide if there was enough of an interest to proceed.
